Live Art. Homegrown.

CabinFever is a performance company which uses homes as their venue and families as their impetus for creation. Performance installations include dance, music, art and theater, and are created under the Artistic Direction of Elana Jacobs. For a short performance run, the rooms of the home are transformed into a living art space, showcasing performances based off the history and stories of the family and architecture of the home.

Anna Goren; “she’s got style, she’s got grace, she’s a winner. ohhhwowowwow”… yea, we kinda have a crush on her. Our sweet and simple friend with a voice so richly complex, it could both solve the worlds problems yet create absolute chaos, all in the same breath. Her talents are endless, and we are so happy to count her as one of us. When she’s not jamming it out on her guitar, she’s typically found jarring it up; TupUps*, that is. She can cook up a feast in the most effortless of manners, and will self admittedly walk into a kitchen/cooking store or see a delicious meal, and exclaim “boner city!”. Yeah, she’s funny too ;) While at work, Anna serves the Seattle community, and beyond, with her efforts towards exposing under-served and un-educated populations access to and knowledge about healthy foods, while simultaneously helping to implement and sustain these programs. She’s kind of like your modern day Betty Crocker meets Rosie the Riveter. She’s basically bitchin’.

* TupUps: [a Goren sisters original creation] the art of making leftovers into a brand new, wildly exciting meal the next day for lunch. Originally “tupperware updates” but later shortened to TupUps (cause who doesn’t love a catchy nickname) began as an lunch break email exchange between the two, sharing their excitement surrounding what they had turned their dinner leftovers into for lunch. Soon enough, the girls realized they had landed on something slightly brilliant, and are in the works to create a blog sharing their successes and recipes.

Peter Van Dam: oh what a lad. The man, the myth, the legend responsible for the original design of our logo and all beautiful design/print-related things forthcoming from CabinFever. He made us legit, and for that, we are ever grateful. Peter works as a wildly talented Visual Designer at SMITH in Seattle, and when he’s not on his grind, he’s most likely adding to his elite collection of kicks, or scouring the internet for his next inspiration/visual/macklemore updates. Here’s to you Peter: classic in every way.

Doug Barber is part human, part monster, and mostly just a sweet and gentle soul. He’d tell you we found him on the side of the road, somewhere in Idaho. We’d tell you he’s a ridiculously talented musician, plays in a minimum of 5 bands at all times, and is the glue that keeps this popsicle-stick house together (no litterally, we have a homing device on him. he can never leave us.) He is our dug. he used to have a car named Hank. he also has a tshirt, that says, Hank. that is all.

Welcome to the “Pocket-Sized Life” Series: A peek into the lives of our CabinFever family. Emily Sferra moves; mostly in the form of dancing, but sometimes across the country, like she just did 8 months ago. Emily co-founded CabinFever with Elana somewhere between North Dakota and whoknew?!@.  Lately, Emily likes to pretend she can sing and play the ukelele. She’s mostly off key, and she mostly doesn’t care. Emily also tends to write. Here is some of that…

Written in Beyugada - Istanbul, Turkey

A group of older women sit in a circle nearby, skin golden brown from tanning in this eternal summer sun. One brave soul with silver grey hair makes her way to the strangely familiar, man-made stairs in this foreign moment. She makes her way in on her own time, neither rushed nor procrastinating. She reacts with each step; acknowledging, but advancing. She pauses halfway down, lets her skin settle and her emotions swell and reside. I look down for a moment and once I look back up, the silver streak is gone; she has submerged, she is teaching me.

The moment, this action, the act of doing. It is brilliant. Her approach to the water, I hope can be my approach to most everything:

A confident submersion into the abyss.

Elana Jacobs (withoutwhichtherewouldbeno Cabin, and definitely, no Fever. Amen.) is the Artistic Director and Co-founder of a performance group called CabinFever, based in Seattle. Whether it be through film, music, dance, or whatever medium readily available to her, Elana strives to find beauty from the moments otherwise known as “in between”. She revels in the details of awkward handshakes, social etiquette, and oily food preferences.

Contact her (elana@cabinfeverliveart.com) if you want to play show&tell with your home. She’ll make stuff based on your stuff. It’s kind of her thing.
